Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is the key biomass conversion step of CIRCULAIR. HTL is feedstock flexible and can convert various organic feedstock into biocrudes that get upgraded to transportation fuels in a subsequent process step.

The viability of the process chain was demonstrated in a preceding EU project HyFlexFuel and is explained in the HyFlexFuel project video.
