CIRCULAIR maximises biomass resource utilisation by developing suitable valorisation schemes for all relevant side streams that evolve from hydrothermal liquefaction.
In addition to fuel production from HTL biocrude, process heat is generated from the wet oxidation of HTL process water.
Furthermore, volatile fatty acids (VFA) and ammonia (NH4+) are recovered from the process water downstream to wet oxidation. CO₂ streams resulting from HTL conversion and wet oxidation are recovered and purified for methanol synthesis from CO₂ and green hydrogen.
Finally, CIRCULAIR investigates the use of HTL solids for soil application.
