Second CIRCULAIR Webinar on 11 September 2025
Second CIRCULAIR webinar on 11 September 2025
The second CIRCULAIR webinar will be organized on Thursday 11 September 2025 from 16.00 to 17.00 (CET) and focus on Hydrothermal Liquefaction (HTL) and aqueous phase treatment by Wet Oxidation.
Agenda:
- “Integrating HTL with Wet Oxidation to facilitate an integrated autothermal process: modelling and technical implementation” by Patrick Biller (Aarhus University)
- “Wet Oxidation reactor design considerations and implications” by Juliano Souza dos Passos (PNNL)
Registration is now open.
About the speakers:
Dr. Patrick Biller is Associate Professor at Aarhus University and a leading expert in hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL). He heads the Hydrothermal Processing Research Group, focusing on converting biomass and waste into sustainable fuels and materials. An ERC Starting Grant holder and 2023 Grundfos Prize recipient, he earned his PhD in Process Engineering from the University of Leeds, specialising in hydrothermal biofuel production. Within the CIRCULAIR project, he leads the work package on the implementation of an integrated HTL-Wet Oxidation pilot plant.
Dr. Juliano Souza dos Passos is currently the Platform Lead for Hydrothermal Processes at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Aarhus University, Denmark, where he specialized in synergistic hydrothermal liquefaction of waste materials. Juliano tries to combine academic research with industrial implementation, particularly in the design and process intensification of advanced unit operations. His current work at PNNL focuses on the development of hydrothermal technologies for biomass conversion to biofuels.
